I am a Faculty Professor in the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary. With a background in science education, anthropology, language education and environmental education, I have studied and taught in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Argentina and Mexico and have served as a Professor in Elementary Science and Environmental Education at the University of Alberta, Royal Roads University and the University of Calgary. My research and teaching interests are guided by deep enjoyment of our world and great concern for the health of our planet and its inhabitants. Through semiotic interpretive studies and personal construct research, I seek to understand how, human beings create meaning about their place in the world and the important role we all have to care for it. I strive to help educators create learning environments that recognize the power of learners’ own efforts and strategies to take actions of their own to learn.
